Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic is the defining global health crisis of our time and the greatest challenge we have faced.
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic loss of human life worldwide and presents an unprecedented challenge to public health, food systems and the world of work. The economic and social disruption caused by the pandemic is devastating: tens of millions of people are at risk of falling into extreme poverty, while the number of undernourished people, currently estimated at nearly 690 million, could increase by up to 132 million by the end of the year.
Community quarantine and social distancing has not hindered our kababayans in looking for ways to help with the battle. Different groups, individuals, classmates, colleagues - groups big and small - have come together, despite limited resources and movement.
Upon the implementation of the lockdown, numerous people have made frenzied rounds of panic-buying to stock up on supplies, leaving the urban poor and persons with limited mobility with insufficient supplies. Because of this, donation drives have been providing marginalized sectors with care packages to help them get by during this crisis.
